Founded in 1999 by Cristi and Rick Conners, the ranch, with the unique moniker, "ThunderPaws", was inspired by our Golden Retriever, "Ranger". Our brand, which is displayed prominently throughout the website, is an actual reproduction of one of Ranger's paws. Ranger was the head dog around the Ranch for many years. Someday, Sergeant the pup may take over Ranger's job of watching over the ever changing cast of rescued Goldens which we foster until they return to health and can be adopted through Golden Bond Golden Retriever Rescue here in Oregon.
Rick was born in Los Angeles in 1947 and attended both Loyola High School and Loyola University where he received his BA in Business Administration with emphasis on Management.
Having lived in Santa Barbara for over 20 years, Rick, with his wife and family decided on the adventure of a lifetime and moved to Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii where he became a NAUI Scuba Instructor and Licensed Boat Captain. He now is a full time rancher.
Cristi was born and raised in Santa Barbara in 1949 and attended Santa Barbara High School and Santa Barbara City College. After a long career in the banking industry, she elected to pursue her dream of raising Appaloosa horses and trained for a number of years in general horsemanship. Today she co-manages the daily operation of the ranch along with Rick.
